BENNINGTON, KS - Anderson, Steven Robert, 62, succumbed to illness Friday, Sept. 4, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee; burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. Visitation will be from 1-2 pm Thursday at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association. Steve was raised in Wichita, KS and graduated from Emporia State University where he met his wife of 39 years, Peggy (Skwarlo) Anderson, who survives. They have two children, Steven of Denver, CO and Julie Banninger (husband Chris), of Salina, KS. A mainframe computer programmer and information systems specialist, most of Steve's career was spent with Best Buy Co. in Minnesota. His work there led to his promotion to Sr. Vice President/Chief Information Officer. He won the RITA, Interactive Summit and Smithsonian Awards. He later was CIO of Paper Warehouse, Minnesota and went on to Target Corporation, Salina, KS. He recently retired to a hobby farm in Bennington, KS to be closer to his grandchildren, Corbin and Brooke Banninger. He enjoyed the quieter life, tending his chores. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Parma Anderson and brother, Cris. He is also survived by his brother, Rick Anderson, Haysville, KS; sister, Parma Sue McCaffree, Valley Center, KS.  I would have loved to see Steve again during our more recent days - he never was able to come to a Riverside 6th Grade Reunion and that would have been nice for us all - It's very sad that we did not get to know him again as an adult!   I remember how sweet he was in school.....

I was saddened to see that Steve had died. We were best buddies at North and saw each other once in a while during college and at his and Peggy's wedding.  One funny Steve story.  I worked second shift at Beech while I was at WSU and he was at Emporia St.  I was coming home after midnight and he was sitting in front of my house. He had driven down to Wichita from Emporia to introduce Peggy. They had to drive back to make classes that morning. What a hoot. We had not talked in years. He had retired to a small farm near KC. At one point he was VP - IT at Best Buy HQ in Mn. He had many glowing tributes from his employees, he must have been a great mentor for many.
