Vernon Lee Chandler

Vernon Lee Chandler

Vernon L. Chandler, 74, a Northland resident of Kansas City, MO passed away at home on Sunday, December  26, 2021 from advanced heart disease.

Vern was born in Wichita, KS on September 4, 1947 to James and Dolly Chandler.  He had a degree in Music Education from Friends University in Wichita.  Vernon married Janalie Nester on June 1, 1969.  They had 2 sons, Charles “Chip” Chandler (Stacy) of Independence, MO and Matthew Chandler (Angie) of Smithville, MO.  He had 4 Grandsons, Aaron and Michael Chandler of Independence, MO and Matthew and Thomas Chandler of Smithville, MO

Vern was a Union Sheet metal Worker before becoming a gifts and collectables sales rep until his retirement.

Vern loved his family deeply.  He loved hunting, fishing, watersports, and vintage trucks.  He was always ready to do anything with the kids.  A list of kids he taught to waterski and fish would fill this obituary.  When his kids were young, on snow days he would load all the neighborhood kids in his truck and take them saucer sledding behind the truck through the neighborhood.

Almost everyone that knew him remembers him teaching them something.  Construction, roofing, plumbing, auto mechanics, boating, how to speed on trips, waterskiing, fishing, hunting, joke telling, he was a jack of all trades.

Mostly, though, he taught the best lessons by example.  How to be decent and kind.  He never met a stranger.  He treated everyone like family, especially if they didn’t have one of their own.  Help everyone you can, especially if they can’t help themselves.

He was a great guy, and we loved him a lot.  We’re grateful for the time we got with him, and he will be deeply missed.

Per Vern’s wishes cremation will take place.  No formal services are scheduled at this time.  Memories of Vern and condolences to the family may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com

I got to know Vern when we were both involved in vocal music at North and Friends.  He was a friend.  It sounds like he had a good life based upon his obituary.  Condolences to Jan and the rest of his family.  Rest in Peace Vern!
