I remember Gary well from North and know his family will miss him greatly.  I do not recall knowing he had been awarded the Purple Heart.  What an honor and something for his family to be proud of as they celebrate his life!

Although I have not seen Gary for many years, I remember him quite well from our days of playing baseball together both in the summertime and at North High.  He was a very good pitcher and hitter as well.  He and I (if memory serves me correctly) were the only sophomores to suit up for varsity games.  We enjoyed each other's company a great deal.  I will miss him and keep his family in my prayers.    Greg Parish

My grade school friend,  Nancy McMahan, who moved away in junior high, knew Gary and made the following comment: "Aw man, I hate to hear this. But thank you so much for forwarding it to me. I so well remember Gary - he was one of my first crushes. It was Gary who gave me my first boyfriend gift - a half eaten box of Girl Scout cookies. He'd eaten half of them already but then gave me the box. I remember it to this day.

Weren't those grade school says special! I too remember Gary, particularly during our days at McLean Elementary School. You were taken too soon, Gary.  Rest in peace.

Gary and I grew up together, grade school, junior high, and high school.  We lived about a block away from each other .For our ninth grade picture Gary and I are sitting together, I have Gary's glasses on.  We thought we were so clever. Just before I left for Viet Nam Gary and I had lunch together. He told me all about getting shot, the medivac, hospital stay, etc. The last time I saw Gary was at Colemans.  He was a good friend and will be missed.

I, also remember Gary from McClean Elementary. Those were carefree days and none of us knew that Vietman was ahead. Wish I could remember the street on which Gary resided. I was on Manhattan and Danny Andrews was close to me so I assume Gary was right around the corner. Life was easy then.

Happy to read that  Gary went on to live a full and productive life. I never even knew he fought in Vietnam.
