https://gofund.me/4e1de6df√https://gofund.me/4e1de6dfDear Classmates -  This is a difficult message is to send...Classmate and Reunion Committee Member, Steve Dirks, passed away this afternoon, Sunday, March 12, 2023.  This followed a long hospitalization and after care related to congestive heart failure and other serious health problems.  Steve's friendships crossed many borders in our class - he was loved by many, a kind and special person whose last days were blessed with many visits by classmates almost daily and from distances outside Wichita.  We should alll feel this love and support in our last days on this earth.    When further details are decided upon for rememberances of Steve, I will post them.  Until then, please visit his "In Memory" page to post memories you have of time with Steve.  Also, I want to share a link to a "GoFundMe" page set up by his family.  Please visit this page as well and help in any way you may feel moved and able to do so.   Here is that link:  https://gofund.me/bd0b7e01

Laughter, there was always laughter in ever conversation with Steve: from listening to him tell about helping his Dag go to the restroom when he had fractured both heels falling off of a ladder (have you ever tried standing up without putting pressure on your heels!!!?) . . .to talking to him recently when he was in the hospital. Even though the outlook was dire, Steve still laughed at my jokes.

Steve was such a good friend to so many, we are all fortunate to have known him. I will miss you Steve. -fred

I'm very sorry to read about Steve's passing; I recall Steve as a very easy going person and easy to get along with. This has not been a good week for me neither; I also lost a couple of people I served in the US Navy with, one I worked for the other worked for me, one was my age the other ten years younger. Sadly at our ages friends and acquaintences are passing on, it is said to a better place and in eternal peace. I am passing my condolences on to Steve's family too; I'm sure I am not alone in my sentiments. May Steve Rest in Peace.

Steve was a good friend at North. But like so many others we went different directions after graduation. Always enjoyed talking with Steve at reunions. I was recently going through a box of old photos and came across a bunch of wallet size photos of classmates. I had forgotten about them, apparently we handed them out our senior year. One of them was of Steve.

I just remember him being an all around nice guy and friendly to everyone. People liked being around him.

We were fortunate to have Steve as a classmate and friend.   He was always fun to be around and enjoyed a good laugh. He was always anxious to hear about classmates and their lives. I am glad his suffering is over and he has achieved his heavenly reward. Rest in peace my friend. Greg

I didn't  get to know Steve in High School, I was thankful to get acquainted with him at Frank Keys Pizza restaurant. He was so much fun and easy to like with a beautiful smile. May God comfort his loved ones.
