Gary's Obituary...

Gary Steven Shreve “The Meatman”, 74, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022. Gary was born on July 30, 1947 in Wichita, Kansas. In 1971, he married his wife, Sandy.

Gary proudly declared himself a 5th generation butcher growing up in Shreve’s Meat Market, moving on to a 40-year career with Cargill, and selling his locally famous BBQ on Saturdays around town. As a kid, Gary vacationed in the Colorado mountains at the good ol’ Yank Ye Inn, and continued that tradition with his wife, kids and grandkids. After retirement, Gary enjoyed drinking beer with friends, making jerky and driving his girls around in the Chevelle. Gary never went anywhere without running into someone he knew, even at the Atlanta airport en route to one of his and Sandy’s trips to Aruba.

Gary is preceded in death by his father, Bud Shreve, mother, Doris Raum, father, Tom Raum and sister, Susie Allen.

Gary leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Sandy, son, Gavin, daughter, Neelie Feld (Dominic), cherished granddaughters, Hannah and Harper Feld who will forever miss their beloved “Popeye”, sister Donna Shaffer, and countless friends.

Celebration of Life Service will be at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 16, 2022 at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ResthavenMortuary-Cemetery.com for the Shreve family.

Dear Redskins, Yesterday I heard the news, Mike Moreno called me.  Gary was a unique guy and very troubled.  When his dad Bud died his whole world changed  Bud and Gary would hunt and go to the meat market all the time.  Gary wanted the meat market but Bud's brother and family had other plans.  His mom married Judge Raum right after Bud's death.  Trouble came quickly and Gary was sent off to military school.  He came home angry.  He spent the night at my home after a crazy night drinking and carousing .  The next morning he was in the kitchen with my mom and drinking coffee.  She knew it was difficult for him so she invited Gary to live with us.  He lived with us during the entire senior year and two more years after that.  I went to California and Gary stayed and fell in love.  My condolences to all of his family.  RIP.  Bruce
