A brief update before the reunion. I am looking forward very much to connecting again with so many long time friends there.
I am winding down my law practice. I have only 3 cases left to finish, but all of them are medical malpractice cases and one has giant pharma Bayer as a defendant too, and it will take at least another year to finish. Over the past 12 years, I have been working almost full time on hundreds of cases of breast cancer caused by menopausal hormone drugs, and this
Bayer case is the only one not resolved. What a medical disaster--probably 300,000+ unnecessary breast cancers worldwide caused by medical ignorance and drug company mendacity.
Last year, Linda and I realized a 30 year dream and bought a farm on Maui, and we are now living on it almost all the time. We have 80 fruit trees (mostly citrus) and 75 proteas planted, and expect to start commercially harvesting them in a couple years. You can see the property on Google Earth at 20 Pulehunui Road, Maui, but the photo is 4 years old and we have already transformed it substantially (pool, yoga studio, the orchards and gardens). The main house is still undergoing remodeling work (there is yet to be water in the pool, for example), but should be done by the time I get back to Maui from Wichita in two weeks.
Our four kids, their spouses or current significant others are all scheduled to visit us on the farm this winter.
I am writing a book on hormone therapy and breast cancer, and I am very involved in getting Maui County to buy the private electric utility here and build large solar panel arrays on a small part of the sugar cane fields. Linda and I drive an all electric Nissan Leaf here on the island and we love it. And since we have solar panels on the roofs of our farm house and out buildings, we run the car and the house and the pool off the sun, needing to buy almost no electricity from the grid. And no gas for the car.
