GEORGE L. ZIMMERMAN

Services were pending Friday for PFC George L. Zimmerman Jr, 20, killed May 29 in Thailand, according to information received by his parents Mr. and Mrs. George L. Zimmerman, Sr, 516 N. Broadway.

He was killed when the truck he was driving overturned, pinning him underneath.  He joined the Army in January, 1966 and completed basic training at Ft Leonard Wood, Missouri.  He had been stationed in Thailand a year and was to have returned home in a few days.

He was a 1965 graduate of North High School and was employed at Harmon Machine and Wichita Flour Mills before entering the service.  Survivors in addition to his parents include 6 brothers, Gregory and Paul, both of Wichita, and Brad, Larry, Jimmy and Wayne all at home; and 11 sisters, Mrs. Jessie Tucker, Mrs. Dean Coldiron, Mrs. Joe Hernandez, Mrs. Charles Rinehart and Mrs. Ron Kamphaus all of Wichita, and Hallie, Diane, Mary, Wanda, Michelle and Barbara all at home.  Byrd-Snowdgrass Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

George was one of my best friends. A very quiet and reserved kid who was humble and kind to everyone. George was in most of my classes with me.  He always came to our basketball games and he and I would discuss the previous nights game the next day in class.

 

I still miss my good friend George Zimmerman.
