Robert 'BOBBY' Wayne Mansfield

Robert 'BOBBY' Wayne Mansfield

In loving memory of
Robert Wayne Mansfield
24 December, 1946-25 September, 2020

Robert Wayne Mansfield was born December 24th, 1946 in Wichita, Kansas.  He passed away in his sleep at the age of 73 in Abbotsford Hospital, British Columbia.

Robert, or Bob, as he was known to most, began his lifelong journey as an artist as a young child who loved to draw and paint.  After graduating with a degree in art from the University in Kansas, he took a job in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he showed in numerous galleries, co-founded a gallery, and received several government commissions.  Bob continued to paint and show his work throughout his life, most recently in Smithers and Terrace, BC.

Bob’s faith as a Christian was an integral part of who he was. His passion was studying the Bible, specifically eschatology.  He pastored several home churches and groups of people at different times in his life, most recently in Kitseguecla, BC.

Bob was the life of the party.  He was a great dancer.  He loved to tell stories, but he also had the gift of drawing stories out of others.  He enjoyed people, and they responded to him.  Even in his final days, in Abbotsford Hospital while battling Acute Leukemia, he was a favorite with doctors and nurses.

Robert leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend of 45 years, Daria Mansfield, two sons, Benjamin and Richard, and three grandchildren, Andrew, 15, Alex, 12, Nikki, 3, as well as his brother, Richard, and sister, Barb.

He is in the care of Henderson’s Fraser Valley Funeral Home.  You may leave a message for the family at the following website: https://www.dignitymemorial.com/enca/obituaries/abbotsford-bc/robert-mansfield-9382304

What a wonderful man and friend.  Bob's love for God was cantagious, his love for others as well, and what a gentleman he was!  All of us will miss you and keep your faith in our hearts so we can pass that on.  Rest in Peace Bobby, you are with Jesus now.  Tim Greenshields

I first met Bob when we started at John Marshall in 1959.  Bob always had very good sense of humor and he played the drums.  When we were attending North, I got a wild idea to start a band, eventhough I could barely play the guitar.  Of course that didn't work out so well.  I had heard Bob had went to Canada but didn't know where.  My wife, son and I moved to Washington State in 1991 from Hawaii.  I wish I had known that Bob lived as close to me as he did.  I would've looked him up in British Columbia, I've been up there several times.  I will always remember Bob, may he rest in Peace.

I could write a book. Riverside, Marshall and North. He was a great friend through all those years. The last time I saw him was at the last North reunion he attended. Still Bob. North High girls still wanting to get him out on the dance floor. He also had a good Ricky Nelson imitation. He would "pull it out" occasionally. It was worth waiting for.  His Mom and Dad (Chigger) and Grandmother who lived in the next door duplex, as well as Barb and Rick were a wonderful family. Seems like I lived most of my early years at their home.
Bob was always the most talented artist in the class and went on to pursue this love. He was also a great diver and lettered at North with pride. Seems there was also Jimmy Smith's '40 Ford in his life. He loved that car and it matched his personality to a "T". Flashy. Got your attention.
Bob was working on his art degree at KU and I was doing the same at WSU. Kay and I were married by then and Bob would come over and go through my work. Always with insight and more than helpful.
Sorry about the rambling thoughts. It's just how it came out as I sit here reminiscing.
Bob will always be a part of our lives.
Kay and my condolences to his beautiful wife and family.
All our Love,  Bryan & Kay Collier
